Physical Education

PE statement of intent for website

At New Oaks, we believe Physical Education (PE) is essential for every student’s growth, promoting health, well-being, and confidence. Our PE curriculum is tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring they can fully participate in physical activities. We are committed to providing a PE experience that is both engaging and accessible, helping each student reach their full potential.

We make full use of our indoor and outdoor facilities, offering a range of activities that develop motor skills, teamwork, and social interaction. PE at New Oaks is also linked to our topics and cross-curricular learning, helping students build essential skills such as turn-taking, waiting, and collaboration through team games and structured activities.

Our approach encourages students to stay active, understand the importance of healthy living, and build self-esteem in a fun, supportive environment. We also provide gross motor and fine motor activities designed by our Occupational Therapists to further support physical development across the curriculum.

Swimming

At New Oaks, we have an on-site swimming pool, which is accessible to all students, providing them with the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons once a week. Swimming offers numerous benefits, including building strength and coordination, enhancing motor skills, and boosting confidence. It also promotes independence, as students practice essential skills such as dressing, undressing, and personal hygiene in a supportive environment. Additionally, swimming is a relaxing, low-impact exercise that supports both physical and mental well-being.
