Oaklands is an excellent special school based in Isleworth and serving the London Borough of Hounslow. Oaklands pupils aged 11 – 19, have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties and autism.
Oaklands is at an exciting point in its development; we are currently working towards expansion and full school relocation to a purpose built new school in Hounslow for September 2018. The schools will be based on two sites and will consist of the current secondary school (High Oaks) along with a new primary school (New Oaks) and an independent post 19 college (Great Oaks) opening September 2018.
Our student numbers are rapidly expanding and as a result we are looking to appoint apprentice teaching assistants to work within our class teams. We believe that all of our students are capable of making outstanding progress and we want to appoint individuals who share our belief.
Apprentices support the teacher and teaching assistants in delivering education to a small group of pupils with severe learning and physical disabilities. They will work towards NVQ level 2 in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools during their first year and can then progress onto the advanced apprenticeship to achieve NVQ Level 3. Apprentices are required to attend West Thames College as required, which will include evening classes.
You will have good basic education skills and a strong desire to develop their skills working with young people who have learning difficulties. Applicants must be physically fit and willing to undertake personal care including toileting and feeding.
We offer a comprehensive induction and Inset programme for our staff, a pension scheme and employee assistance programme.
Oaklands is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and anyone applying to work at the school is expected to share this commitment. This position is subject to a satisfactory fully enhanced DBS check, medical clearance and references being received. All positions are subject to the satisfactory completion of a 26 working week probation period.
Visits to the school are welcome. Please contact Lindsey Banks, HR Officer for an appointment on 0208 560 3569.
